Iconic New Zealand luxury accommodation… Inside the highly tenured 17-acre grounds, another wonderful new addition to the iconic Huka Lodge (and Huka Retreat brands) has recently welcomed its first guests. Named after the charming Irishman who established Huka Lodge, the Alan Pye Cottage opened in late December 2008. Designed by Virginia Fisher and Christian Anderson, and Sumich Architects, the Alan Pye Cottage builds on and continues many of the themes established in 2005, with the exceptional Owner’s Cottage retreat, also located within the Huka Lodge estate. The Cottage takes full advantage of a superb location and sits on lush green lawns amongst manicured gardens on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, just before the turquoise green waters surge downstream to the impressive Huka Falls. Using the finest quality materials – cedar, heart timbers, stone and brick, the cottage draws on architectural fundamentals from the 1920s and 1930s with strong reference to the sophisticated elegance of the English Arts & Crafts movement. This influence, expressed in a contemporary manner, clearly pervades both the exterior and interior design of the Alan Pye Cottage. The Alan Pye Cottage is certain to carry on the fine tradition of luxurious living and generous hospitality which was started by Alan Pye and his wife at Huka Lodge so long ago.
