Alkina Lodge is located at Wattle Hill on the Great Ocean Road, close to the Twelve Apostles, the Great Otway National Park and stunning Johanna Beach. You’ll find it’s the perfect base from which to explore the dramatic scenery, sweeping beaches and ancient rainforests for which the Great Ocean Road is so renowned. Click here to view more amazing attractions that the area has to offer and start planning your escape…If you are thrilled by world class architecture while engaging with Australian nature; if a luxe Gaggenau equipped kitchen, bespoke wood fireplace, & Nespresso coffee appeals; if Bang & Olufsen or Bose audio, fine European furniture or stargazing from a Royal Doulton bathtub through sky windows sounds good; then you’ll probably love Alkina. We have 3 individual Lodges with 4 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms each. We can accomodate from 2 -24 guests based on double occupancy or from 1 -12 for singles. At Alkina we’d much prefer a vacancy than an unhappy guest. The Murcutt & Lewin architectural design is intended to tread lightly on the land & be as carbon neutral as possible. Heating is passively solar, supplemented by gas fired hydronics, underfloor heating in the bathrooms & of course the fireplace. But the Lodges “breathe” & it can get chilly, so in winter please bring a jumper. Likewise, in the heat of summer, cooling comes from the southern ocean breeze, expansive screened doors & windows & venting hot air up through the roof. This is supplemented by Dyson bladeless fans. There is no air-conditioning. So if precise temperature control is what you want, Alkina may not please. One more thing…there are no curtains or blinds in the master bedrooms, just the privacy & the vista that nature affords. If voyeuristic wildlife is a worry, there are better options than Alkina.
