Arriving at Headwaters Eco Lodge

Staying at the Headwaters Eco Lodge proved to be an incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The journey to Glenorchy itself is a visual treat, and I highly recommend allowing extra time to savor the breathtaking scenery and capture it in photos along the way.

Upon arriving at Headwaters Eco Lodge, nestled amidst majestic mountains, I had the privilege of a guided tour by Kath. It was during this tour that the true magic of the lodge unfolded. The premium rustic ambiance of the lodge exudes comfort, relaxation, and an inviting charm. Moreover, what sets this lodge apart is the rich narrative behind every element, revealing a great commitment to sustainability.

Sustainability

It comes as no surprise that Headwaters Eco Lodge has been recognised as the most eco-friendly lodge in Australasia. The use of recycled materials, including those salvaged from the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake and local wool-sheds, adds a unique touch to the lodge’s construction. In addition, this commitment to sustainability extends to innovative practices that save over 300,000 litres of water annually.

Even the artwork within the lodge reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainability. Personally, I found the rock art, reminiscent of the Rees and Dart Rivers, to be particularly captivating. Each Eco-Chalet is meticulously furnished, ensuring a thoughtful and comfortable stay.

Garden to table

A highlight of my visit was the exquisite three-course dinner. Not only was every bite a culinary delight, but the use of locally grown, seasonal produce with a garden-to-table ethos enhanced the dining experience.

The location of Headwaters Eco Lodge is a draw for those seeking a retreat to revitalise and relax. With the stunning mountain ranges and Lake Whakatipu at its doorstep, the lodge offers the perfect setting to immerse oneself in nature. Furthermore, my stay even included the serene experience of a cold immersion in Lake Whakatipu, adding an extra layer of tranquility to an already idyllic setting.
