It has gained a reputation as one of the most captivating and challenging golf courses in the country. The over 7000 yard par 72 championship course features numerous elevated tees, offering players an excellent overview of the hole layout as well as 360 degree views, you will not find anywhere else in the world. There are no parallel fairways and no two holes alike. One of the most striking aspects of The Hills Golf Course is the stunning natural native flora setting and its uniquely decorated/themed artworks that are splashed throughout the course. One of the highlights is the exclusive and unique feel that you will only have when playing a private course of this quality. Located in the Arrowtown basin, the course is framed by the towering Remarkables mountain range, which provides a breathtaking backdrop at every turn. The snow-capped peaks, combined with rolling hills, lush green fairways, and crystal-clear lakes, create a visually stunning panorama that makes playing at The Hills an unforgettable experience.

First impressions & facilities

When you first arrive at the unassuming front gate, you will need to be buzzed in. This is when your experience starts to gain its prestigious and truly exclusive feel. Upon arriving at the carpark, you have a concierge service available to load your clubs onto your chosen mode of transport. (In our case we decided to walk the course) When checking-in, you have many friendly and professional staff members catering to your needs. The Hills boasts world-class facilities that compliment the overall experience. The award winning, cleverly designed bunker style clubhouse offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where players and visitors can relax and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes whilst enjoying a meal or drink. There are also change rooms, lockers, a complimentary driving range, practice greens, and a well-stocked pro shop catering to the needs of golfers of all levels. We were provided with ice cold aluminium water bottles at the start of the round and also tended to whilst on the course for any further needs or orders by the friendly staff. (The homemade style muesli bars were absolutely divine!)

From elevated tee boxes that offer panoramic views to holes that play alongside lakes or some huge golden sand bunkers, the course keeps you guessing. The presence of natural hazards, such as gorges and rocky outcrops, further adds to the strategic nature of the game, ensuring that no two holes at The Hills are ever the same. Do you enjoy putting? Prepare to be challenged by some beautifully prepared and shaped greens of all sizes. We found the speed and undulations of the greens to be tricky, but in the fun sense rather than the frustrating one. Kept to an immaculately high standard, you can tell the greens are designed and cared for by people who think about the game of golf!
