Located just 20 minutes by boat from shore, on the tip of Viti Levu, Dolphin Island nestles like a precious jewel, surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Guests arrive by the island’s own private boat and are immediately enveloped by the beauty and luxurious accommodation that awaits.

The main bure, with its fabulous traditional palm-thatched roof and architecturally detailed elevation holds centre court, with a pair of equally picturesque guest bure suites sitting to each side in perfect harmony. This group of buildings are at one with the landscape and every aspect of their design ensures perfect enjoyment of the island’s nurturing and lush natural landscape.

The main bure is the hub of rest, relaxation and fun with a series of poolside areas perfectly designated for time spent lying on day beds (either pre or post a dip in the infinity pool), or for alfresco dining.
Casual groups of plantation-style chairs, and soft feather-filled sofas beckon, as one day draws seamlessly into the next. As the last rays of the sun catch on the tips of the palm trees and sink into the ocean, the open veranda, with its banks of bi-fold doors offers the perfect venue for a tropical cocktail or a glass or two of chilled wine.

Dolphin Island guest bure suites are perfect for a tropical lifestyle – featuring heart timber floors, plaster walls, stone tiles, wooden shutters, high ceilings and the latest in air conditioned comfort. The dressing rooms are large and generous and these are further complemented by well-appointed bathrooms, twin hand basins, shower, sculptural free-standing bath and outdoor shower, within a private garden courtyard. Fine, pure cotton bed linen and soft feather pillows are perfectly suited to the climate, and The Huka Retreats famed attention to detail is strongly evident within this haven of relaxation and romance.

Renowned interior designer Virginia Fisher has ensured Dolphin Island offers an extraordinary guest experience. Ambience is in great abundance as Virginia’s sense of place emerges strongly, as she references colours, textures and patterns from the Pacific – boldly and with her absolutely innate sense of style. Every level of guest comfort has been considered from thirsty beach towels to perfumed candles – and the total effect is utter magic.

Island manager Dawn Simpson and her team continue to provide the warm style of hospitality that Fijian people are so well known for. They will look after guests as little or as much as they desire, while always providing attentive and solicitous service for all Dolphin Island visitors.

Meals are delicious and feature fresh produce, with many flavours and ingredients unique to Fijian cuisine. Freshly caught fish is brought to the island daily so guests can select their preference from the catch and it will be beautifully prepared and served to them within hours. Tropical fruit abounds – papayas, mangoes, bananas, pineapples etc and the fragrance of perfumed flowers is carried on the air.
