Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki
Wilderness Lodge, Lake Moeraki

Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki lies in the heart of the 2.7 million hectare Te Wahi Pounamu-South West New Zealand World Heritage Site. Our 28 room Wilderness Lodge is on the shores of the Moeraki River and Lake Moeraki. It is surrounded by untouched podocarp-beech rainforest. It is a short 20 minute walk from the Tasman seacoast where there are NZ fur seals and breeding colonies of Tawaki/Fiordland Crested Penguin. The Lodge was established in 1989 by ecologists Anne Saunders and Gerry McSweeney who still own the Lodge and are closely involved in its operation. The Lodge offers guests great food, wines and attractive accommodation with magnificent forest and river views out every window. The protected lands around the Lodge are a haven for native birds and rare plants. The Lodge’s speciality is nature discovery and guided outdoor adventures in a tranquil nature paradise. There are no noisy helicopters or jetboats here and nature reigns supreme. The Lodge is a paradise for nature lovers and for those wanting a relaxing retreat away from the pressures of the modern world. Radiating from the Lodge is a network of rainforest and Tasman seacoast walks. In front of the Lodge there is a fleet of canoes for you to explore the Moeraki river and you can paddle the short distance up the river to the Lake.
