Ohau House is a perfect holiday house for writers, photographers, artists, trampers and hikers, birdwatchers, skiers, and couples who enjoy spending holidays in natural beauty. The house has been architecturally designed to provide a perfect holiday retreat that indulges the senses. An open plan living area, high ceilings and the use of glass throughout create a spacious living environment that is both an ideal holiday location and a resting place for appreciating natural surrounds. Greywacke boulders and indigenous plants have been positioned to provide vistas from windows and create privacy while simultaneously preserving the natural beauty of Lake Ohau and the surrounding beech trees and tussocks. The house is especially popular for honeymoons, writer’s and artist’s retreats, and celebrations of special events such as anniversaries. The accommodation at Ohau House is fully furnished and designed for utmost comfort – for two adults or two couples. Each of the two bedrooms has a Queen size bed and its own external door and small private balcony. Both come with bedside tables and lights, bedroom chair, electric blankets, high quality beds and bed linen. An open fireplace, underfloor heating, double-glazed windows, sun- blinds and sheltered courtyard allow guests to be comfortable in all the extremes of seasonal weather. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large stainless steel fridge and freezer, oven, dishwasher and electric cook top, pullout pantry, Corian benches, kitchen island, as well as a double sink with pull-out mixer tap, full range of kitchenware and small appliances for cooking, baking and outside BBQ. Facing north east, the deck provides sweeping views of Ben Ohau, the Southern Alps and towards the local township of Twizel. Glass windows and bi-folding doors on the deck allow for comfortable dining and relaxation through all seasons, and a place to enjoy the changing natural light, colours, shadows and weather. Most scenic views on this website are taken from the deck.
