Golf at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club
Royal Melbourne Golf Club
description

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a 36-hole golf club in Australia, located in Black Rock, in south-eastern Melbourne. Royal Melbourne’s two courses are known as the “West” and “East” courses and are respectively ranked number 1 and 6 in Australia. The West course is ranked 7th best course in the world.

Founded in 1891, it is Australia’s oldest existing golf club. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup, for the first time outside the United States, in December 1998.

Bold bunkering, multiple approaches to the greens, along with its wide fairways, it has strongly contoured greens, and the layout is full of mounds and slopes which extend into the greens themselves.

Course designer Alister MacKenzie believed that putting should be hazardous and that a golfer’s approach shots should be tested by greens which offer an easier side and a harder side to the hole.

The generous fairways and fast, firm conditions provide good challenges for both low and high handicap golfers.

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club is the best golf course in the Southern hemisphere and a ‘must do’ for golf enthusiasts when holidaying in the Australia.
