The Onekaka Golf Course is a unique and scenic course located in the small coastal town of Onekaka, in the Golden Bay area at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. With stunning natural surroundings, and a charm that sets it apart from more conventional golf venues. The course is spread over 2 areas, one being from ground level & the other is up about 40 or 50 metres. There is a compulsory caddie/guide for you, giving you metreage and hole description & printed illustrations of each hole. (which is necessary when playing blind shots)
The owner is a former greenskeeper, so the course is kept to an immaculate standard. The greens are meticulously maintained, with features like massive double and triple greens.
Set against a backdrop of lush, green hills and close to the Tasman Sea, the course offers spectacular views that enhance the playing experience. The surrounding landscape includes native bush, farmland, and coastal vistas, providing a tranquil environment where golfers can enjoy both the game and the scenery. The course itself is an 18 hole, par 64 layout, catering to a wide range of skill levels. The relatively short course length may create a false sense of security… but don’t fooled because the layout (Think putt putt golf with obstacles but on a real course) and shot finesse required when playing is quite the challenge.
Onekaka Golf Course is an experience you will not find anywhere else in the country. Its a hosted round of golf with a true Kiwi twist… A hidden gem for those looking to explore off-the-beaten-path, unique golfing in New Zealand. A must-visit for golf enthusiasts travelling through the Golden Bay region. Carts and clubs are available.
