Luxury Adventures has selected a list of must do New Zealand adventures and activities that we think are unique and diverse. This is just a sample of what we can organise in NZ for you. Dependent on your interests there are numerous other unforgettable adventures to experience! Have a look below to get a taste of whats possible in New Zealand.

Tora Coastal Walk, New Zealand

Tora Coastal Hike

Located in the Southern Wairarapa, the Tora walk is a scenic 2 hour drive from Wellington. This 3 day walk offers a vast range of landscapes and 360o ocean views from rugged coastlines and native bush, to iconic New Zealand countryside. Unlike many other NZ hikes the Tora walk is owned and operated by local Kiwi families so you’ll need to book in advance. The team at Luxury Adventures New Zealand can help you plan this.

At 40 km long the Tora is ideally walked over 3 manageable days. Numbers are capped at 14 people, to not overcrowd the track and detract from the incredible views. The package includes accommodation for each night in comfortable rural properties, and all food using fresh local produce. The Tora Coastal Walk is a uniquely New Zealand experience. Combining a wonderful walk, fantastic scenery and rustic accommodation.

Greenstone Valley, South Island New Zealand

The Greenstone Valley Overnight Hiking Experience

With our partners Glacier Southern Lakes helicopters we can offer a remarkable overnight “get away from it all adventure”. Stay in a purposely built hut in the Greenstone Valley, at the very top of Lake Wakatipu. The hut is accessible only by helicopter, which ensures you’ll have a totally uninterrupted stay. This overnight experience includes one night accommodation in the hut, along with return helicopter flights from Queenstown. Honest kiwi tucker and your own personal guide complete this back country experience. You can also incorporate either heli hiking or heli fly-fishing into this exciting New Zealand adventure.

Drinking craft beer in Wellington

Craft Beer Tours in Wellington

New Zealand and in particular the Wellington region has a booming craft beer scene. Wellington has a number of specialist bars, craft beer breweries and bottle shops stocking specialist brews. Along with a plethora of craft beers, there are not to be missed beer festivals like Beervana and Hopstock. There are no shortage of local hot spots to satisfy even the most enthusiastic craft beer lover!

Some of the better known breweries are Parrotdog, Tuatara & Garage Project. Luxury Adventures have access to local guides who can organise small group or private tours. You’ll visit local breweries and lesser known craft beer drinking hang outs. Why not combine a craft beer tour with film scenes from Peter Jacksons Weta Studios? A visit to the famous Weta Workshops is well worth while when in the capital.

Surfing in Fiordland National Park

Guided Surfing in Fiordland National Park

New Zealand has a number of world class surf spots. From Ninety Mile Beach & Ahipara at the top of the North Island to Piha Beach (a 40 minute drive from Auckland’s CBD). The bohemian surf town of Raglan on the West Coast with its left hand break is another favourite on the west coast. Some of the most consistent surf on the East Coast can be found in Gisborne, which happens to be off beaten tourist path.

None however are as remote as the breaks in the Fiordland National Park, on the South Island. Luxury Adventures know local guides and can arrange a unique surfing adventure quite unlike any other. Surfing options on the trip include beaches, points breaks and river mouths. The adventure includes a scenic flight from Queenstown with overnight accommodation in safari style tents or a wilderness hut. Meals and an experienced surfing guide are also included.

Other Adventures in Fiordland National Park

You can also combine surfing with diving or hiking in some of the most stunning backcountry you’ll ever see. The surf and crayfish share common traits, they are both large and plentiful! Truly a bucket list trip for anyone that enjoys surfing, hiking or free diving or wants to experience remote off the beaten track New Zealand. Talk to the Luxury Adventures team to see how you can fit this adventure into your itinerary.

New Zealand's newest great walk, the Paparoa Track

Paparoa Track and Pike29 Memorial Track

We’re are super excited to hear that New Zealand will soon have a new “Great walk“! Located on the West Coast of the South Island the Paparoa Track opens on December 1, 2019. Purpose built for both hikers and mountain bikers, this breathtaking trail is breaking new ground. At 55 km (34 miles) in length, adventurers will travel through dramatic landscapes, native rain-forests and alpine peaks. Midway through there is the opportunity to visit the existing site of the Pike River mine disaster, where in November 2010, 29 men were killed. The Pike 29 Memorial Track is a commemoration to these men and is intended as a 2-3 day hike, or 1-2 day mountain bike. Along the way there are three purpose built huts accommodating a maximum of 20.

Diving the Poor Knights

Dive or Snorkel The Poor knights

The world renowned Poor Knights marine reserve is found 23 km off the Tutukaka Coastline and is a must visit. Located 2 hours 45 minutes drive from Auckland and a 1 hour 20 minute drive from Paihia (Bay of Islands). Rated as one of the top ten dives in the world by Jacques Cousteau this makes the Poor Knights a “must do adventure” for any diver visiting New Zealand. There are countless dive sites for divers at all levels, with underground caves, tunnels and even wreck dives. See multitudes of fish, shellfish, coral gardens and stingrays. Luxury Adventures can help organise dives for the experienced and novice divers. There are also options for non divers to accompany divers and enjoy kayaking and snorkelling in the marine reserve.
