Nadi Airport is on the west coast of Viti Levu and receives over 90% of Fiji's International Flights. Nausori Airport on the east coast of Viti Levu is popular with business people visiting Suva (30km south of Nausori). Air New Zealand, Air Pacific and Qantas are the main carriers with direct flights from Los Angeles, Hawaii, Auckland,Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tokyo. Korean Air offer direct flights from Seoul. Other regional airlines connect with the other south pacific islands including Royal Tongan Airlines. The high season for travel is between December and February when flights are get heavily booked.

Fiji enjoys a typical tropical climate, with a trade wind blowing across the islands to cool things down during most of the year. Maximum summer temperatures average 88°F (31°C), with the winter average not far different at 84°F (29°C). Rain can be expected at any time of year. The driest months are April, May, June and October.

How long is the flight?

Coming west from Canada and Europe, you'll stop in Los Angeles, and some flights out of Los Angeles and Canada stop in Honolulu. Air Pacific has four non-stops and Air New Zealand has one out of Los Angeles. Flight time from LA to Fiji is 10 hrs, Auckland to Fiji 3hrs, Sydney to Fiji 3hrs 50min.

Do I need a passport or visa to enter Fiji?

Passports are required. Entry visas for Fiji are automatically granted on arrival for a stay of 4 months to most Nationals. These include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA. Other Nationals must apply for a visa before departure at their nearest Fiji Embassy.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have valid passports, visas and re-entry permits which meet the requirements of immigration and other government authorities. Any fines, penalties, payments or expenditures incurred as a result of such documents not meeting the requirements of those authorities will be your sole responsibility. All travelers must have a valid passport for international travel and many countries require at least 6 months validity from the date of return and some countries require a machine-readable passport. Do I need an international license to drive in Fiji?

Car hire is limited to the main island of Viti Levu and to a lesser extent on Vanua Levu - driving is on the left and you need a valid driving license from your home country.

There are no poisonous land animals in Fiji.

Do I need vaccinations to enter Fiji?

None required except for yellow fever and cholera if coming from an infected area.

Fiji has a Value Added Tax of 12.5% and hotel turnover tax of 5%. This 17.5% is usually included in quoted prices unless stated.

What clothes should I take?

Dress is casual and informal throughout the islands. Visitors should bring a light tropical wardrobe including shortsleeve shirts, T-shirts, shorts and slacks for evenings. For women, summer dresses and lightweight skirts, slacks and blouses. The wraparound "sulu" (sarong) is Fiji's most distinctive form of dress for women and men. It is offensive for women to bath topless in Fiji.
