This is a fantastic good weather day trip giving a complete experience covering scenic flight, walk and jet boat ride through the remote high mountains of the Southern Alps. The day starts with a drive up the West Coast Highway to the north end of Lake Wanaka to the hamlet of Makarora. From Makarora enjoy a scenic flight past Mt Pollux landing at the Siberia valley airstrip in the middle of the Alps. Then take the well defined walking track down stream through the beech forest finishing on the Wilkin River, stopping along the way for a picnic lunch. Then, be picked up by a jet boat for the exhilarating ride down the Wilkin back to your starting point.
