On a recent visit to Queenstown and Wanaka, I was lucky enough to be invited to spend an night at Limetree Lodge, a wonderful boutique lodge, set on a 10 acre site, just 10 minutes drive from Wanaka’s cafes and restaurants. The lodge is owned by Pauline & John who are wonderfully warm and inviting hosts. We arrived at the lodge late in the afternoon after a long and tiring day, Pauline and John warmly welcomed us at the door, offering to pour wine, cold drinks, coffee, anything we wanted! We were shown our room in the lovely Linden Suite which has a fresh contemporary feel, a spacious bedroom/bathroom and lounge opening out to an expansive veranda and garden area with alpine views. The lodge has a sunny pool area and hot tub where we took a bottle of local Otago bubbles, provided by Pauline pool side and spent a relaxing couple of hours floating in the pool. When we returned to the lodge we were greeted by a sample platter of local cheeses, and dips accompanied by a bottle of Central Otago Pinot which came from Johns sisters vineyard waiting for us to enjoy in the lodges lounge!
Tariffs at Limetree include freshly-prepared breakfast, with buffet and cooked options; complimentary aperitifs in the evening; all day tea and coffee, home-baking and fresh fruit; mineral water and chocolates, unlimited internet access, courtesy transfer into Wanaka as well as full use of lodge facilities. Evening meals can also be arranged given prior notice.
We had an early start the next day as we were heading over to Makarora for the Siberia Experience, John cooked up a delicious breakfast – eggs, bacon, mushroom, spinach, with fruit along with muesli and fresh coffee, juices etc.
Pauline and John previously owned and operated a Merino high country sheep farm, Kaiwarua Station, and are both down to earth warm people with plenty of stories to tell and offer genuine Kiwi Southern Hospitality. We wished we could have stayed longer!
Thanks to John & Pauline, of Limetree Lodge for making our stay special.
