South Pacific travel visa requirements

  • All visitors to New Zealand must carry a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the date you intend to leave the country.
  • From 1 October 2019, some visitors and transit passengers must have an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) and pay an IVL (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy) before travelling to NZ. Please visit the ETA new requirements page to assess your status. Additionally you can also download the NZeTA app from either the Apple Store or Google Play.
  • Most visitors who intend to stay for less than three months do not require a visa. If you want to stay longer than three months, or your country of origin does not have a visa waiver agreement with New Zealand, then you will need to apply for a Visitor’s Visa. Check here for the list of countries with a visa waiver agreement.
  • If you require further visa information please look at the Immigration New Zealand website or the New Zealand Embassy website for your respective country.
  • If your itinerary includes Australia you will need an Australian ETA (Electronic Travel Authority), dependent of which country you’re originating from. Further information on Australian visas can be found here.
  • If your itinerary includes any of the Pacific Islands you can find visa information via the following links, FijiTahitiCook Islands.
