Riverrun
Set on a high terrace on a tussock and matagouri covered escarpment, Riverrun enjoys uninterrupted mountain views towards the Southern Alps. The lodge overlooks a 500 acre property, just 5 kms from Lake Wanaka resort, which borders both the Clutha and Cardrona rivers. Guests can explore extensive riverside walks and running trails directly from their rooms. The accommodation provides for maximum of just 10 people and ensures individual service, comfort, fine food and wine and a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Designed by a local architect, the almost 100 tonnes of reclaimed hardwood timber and beams used in its construction give the guest accommodation and living areas a sense of warmth, intimacy and history. Richly polished jarrah floors extend throughout both lounges, historic wharf timbers and massive railway beams show century old adze work. Handcrafted furniture and original metal balustrades and light fittings make this a very individual environment.
Both a summer and a winter destination, Wanaka offers year round adventure. The Wanaka region has an unparalleled selection of walking and biking trails, short hikes, day walks and wilderness adventures. With its two lakes, many rivers and big skies, the valley is popular for mountainbiking, kayaking, fishing, canyoning and skydiving. For those who are wanting less adventure and more relaxation there are wildlife cruises to the lake's island reserves, eco rafting trips on the clutha river, winery tours and magnificent scenic flights around Mt Aspiring and to Milford Sound. Wanaka has a special "village" character. It is also very beautiful, with the backdrop of the Southern Alps, two majestic alpine lakes and New Zealand's largest river, the Clutha, which runs along the northern boundary of Riverrun.
Facilities: Riverrun facilities include two lounges each with roaring log fire, generous seating and deep verandahs, dining room, bar, outdoor cedar hot tub, guest computer and wireless internet throughout, an extensive library of books, movies, music and magazines, separate guest area with tea/coffee making and guest fridge, private outdoor hottub, ski locker rooms, mountain bikes and fishing rods. Guest accommodation at the lodge is uncluttered, spacious, comfortable and simply relaxing, with carefully chosen touches of luxury in the pure cotton bedlinen, robes, big wrap bath towels, herbal soaps and toiletries, feather down pillows and New Zealand wool duvets. Clutha rooms are larger with super-king or twin beds and video as well as tv, the Cardrona rooms have a queen size bed, and open directly onto a veranda. All rooms have magnificent mountain views and spacious ensuite bathrooms. Food at the lodge is fresh, plentiful and local. Home baked cookies, sparkling water, fruit and fruit juices, tea and coffee are always available for refreshment. Breakfasts can be light or indulgent and in the evening our chef provides our guests with some of Wanaka\'s best dining accompanied by a good selection of Central Otago wines. Dinner is available Monday through Friday and we recommend advance reservations at the lodge.
