National Trust Walks
Hear incredible pioneering stories, and tales of roguish characters that helped shape a far-flung tropical town. Get to know this tropical and vibrant city, on a guided walk in and around its parks and historical landmarks. On Parks Plaques and Past Times, you’ll discover Darwin’s colourful past as you view unusual architecture and notable monuments. Take the Wild Side Walk, where you’ll hear wild yarns about Darwin’s roguish characters as you visit the places where all the action happened. You’ll see how The Esplanade has been central to the development of Darwin as you take the Stroll Through Darwin’s History, and hear tales of this town’s amazing events and the people who helped shape it. Goyder Road Cemetery is one of the only physical links with Darwin’s pioneers, and on this walk you’ll hear captivating stories of remarkable pioneers. During Dark Side of the Frontier Walk, your guide will explain the architecture and history of the Fannie Bay Goal. Bookings are essential for these walks.

Pinetrees Jazz Festival
This year marks the nineteenth year of the Pinetrees Jazz Festival at Pinetrees Resort Hotel on world heritage listed Lord Howe Island. Performances take place on selected weeks in June, July and August. There is a full programme on the entertainment page on the Pinetrees Resort website. Jazz is free for Pinetrees guests, the bands play before and after dinner in the bar, each night for a week. Guests at other lodges or local residents can drop by for a drink and jazz or book in for dinner with jazz. The 2010 programme is to be announced shortly.
Melbourne International Film Festival
The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is an iconic Melbourne event with a devoted audience. MIFF hosts a feast of cinematic delicacies from over 50 countries for some 17 days each winter, heavily garnished with a range of parties and special events that envelop the CBD. In addition to screening the very best in world cinema, MIFF is Australia's largest showcase of new Australian cinema and most vocal champion of both emerging and established local filmmaking talent. MIFF has a rich history, celebrating 59 years in 2010 which makes it one of the oldest film festival's in the world (one year younger than Cannes!). From its earliest days, MIFF has provided audiences with a unique window on the world and has acted as the leading intellectual and artistic catalyst in Australia's screen cultural landscape. The Festival enjoys annual admissions of 185,000, making it one of Melbourne¹s significant public events.

The Sun-Herald City2Surf
The Sun-Herald City2Surf is the world’s largest running race and Sydney’s favourite sporting event. Held on the second Sunday in August, each year more than 75,000 registered participants raise over $2 million for charity. The 14km course starts in Hyde Park in the CBD, up Heartbreak Hill and on to the spectacular finish at Bondi Beach. Elite runners, joggers and walkers from around the world are joined by many dressed in novelty themed costumes as well as live bands and DJ’s performing along the route. Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair
Spiritually moving, vibrant colours, timeless – an awe-inspiring experience for all art lovers. The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair will provide a unique artistic experience for all lovers of indigenous art and culture. Representing over 30 community arts centres from across Australia, including Arnhem Land, the Kimberley Region, Central Australia, the Torres Strait Islands and Victoria. The diversity of Indigenous art at the fair is remarkable. The Art Fair is a unique opportunity to purchase art directly form the Indigenous owned and incorporated art centres, to see the work of emerging as well as established artists, to meet the artists and to find out about the variety of different cultural groups producing art.
Darwin Festival
The Darwin Festival program provides a feast of local, national and international performances to excite, inspire and entertain. There are few festivals around the world that can boast the weather that Darwin has and this is what makes it a perfect festival town. Held in August, the festival includes everything from free outdoor events to theatre, dance, music, cabaret, films, workshops and comedy, not to mention the sensational cuisine. Running for 18 nights, with over 70 productions, 112 events and performances and over 1,000 international, national and Territory artists and cultural groups, the Darwin Festival reflects the indigenous, Asian and Pacific cultures of the region.

Melbourne Writers Festival
The Melbourne Writers Festival brings together 250 writers from overseas, nationally and locally, for a ten day feast of ideas, debate, readings, discussions and interviews. In its 25th year, the festival presents 250 unique sessions at venues in Federation Square and nearby venues, and provides an opportunity to relax and mingle with writers and other audience members in the Atrium - the festival hub.
