Mt Nicholas Station, Queenstown, New Zealand
This New Zealand family owned, fully operational High Country Sheep Station - lies at the foot of the Southern Alps, Fiordland National Park to the west and the spectacular, clear waters of Lake Wakatipu immediately to the east. This breathtaking destination offers a unique and memorable experience of the New Zealand high country. At over 100,000 acres, Mt. Nicholas is the largest station on the lake. The 30,000 merino sheep produce some of the world's finest quality wool fibre, the majority of which is used in the production of the iconic “Icebreaker” range of high quality, natural fibre garments. Several hundred Red Deer, Fallow Deer & Chamois can also be found on the slopes of Mt. Nicholas, providing an extraordinary environment for the photographer or hunter. With the Von River running across the station & the Oreti River on its boundry, this is a world famous trout fishing destination - rainbow and brown trout are abundant in both the lake and rivers. Whether you're looking for a secluded private destination in which to relax, or are keen to actively experience the New Zealand high country & outdoors - tramping, hunting, or fishing - Mt. Nicholas Station provides an unparalled environment and experience. You won't want to leave.
You can choose from newly refurbished White’s Bay Cabin with spectacular panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Your private cabin includes a living room with a log fire for those chilly nights, a large bathroom, and a large bedroom that can be configured either with a king bed or twin king singles. For larger groups of up to 20, authentic station accommodation options include ‘The Shearers’ Quarters. Here you will stay in genuine farm accommodation also situated right on the lakefront. Ideal for corporate groups or groups of friends, there are several bunkhouse style rooms sleeping 3 to 5, a washroom and laundry and a large kitchen and dining/living room.
Facilities: From the shores of Lake Wakatipu to the alpine peaks you’ll have 100,000 acres of breathtaking space to enjoy, as far as the eye can see. Whether it’s quiet alpine strolls to more adventurous hikes, farm tours, mountain biking, heli-adventures or simply watching some of the day-to-day farm activities.
